The latest results from the National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP) were published by the NHS Information Centre today.

The 2010/11 school year report includes analysis of the prevalence of underweight, healthy weight, overweight and obese children in Reception (aged 4 to 5 years) and Year 6 (aged 10 to 11 years).

Every year, as part of the NCMP, children in Reception and Year 6 are weighed and measured during the school year.

About the NCMP

The NCMP is now recognised internationally as a world-class source of public health intelligence and holds UK National Statistics status.

The programme provides high-quality data on child overweight and obesity levels and trends. The data help improve understanding of overweight and obesity in children and are used at a national level to inform policy, and locally to inform the planning and commissioning of services.

Established in 2006, NCMP is operated jointly by the Department of Health and the Department for Education.
